Wedding Host & MC duties explained:



Main duties of a wedding MC / Host:
  • Scan the venue 2 hours before and double check everything!
  • Briefing with the manager on timings and other formalities.
  • Check that the Bridal party have their button holes/ corsages before photos.
  • Liaise with Registrars and organise the Groom’s meeting with them.
  • Make sure the Groom is calm and relaxed, visit the Bride if she is at the venue.
  • Check the card box, tissues, ceremony music, water and other important items.
  • Check the seating plan and that there are free spaces for the Bridal party.
  • Invite guests into the ceremony room.
  • Announce to guests about mobile phones, photos etc.
  • Collect the Bride for her interview with the Registrar.
  • Assist any late comers to the wedding ceremony to their seats.
  • Check that drinks are ready and that the Bride and Groom have champagne on exit.
  • Lead out the Bride and Groom and also direct guests to any designated areas.
  • Assist with the photography if required. Find guests and help to coordinate group shot.
  • Look after the Bride and Groom (e.g. getting a glass of water, tissues etc).
  • Look after guests (e.g. directing guests to the lavatory, assisting any guests with special needs).
  • Make sure that your wedding breakfast is laid out to your specification.
  • Bring in the Bride and Groom for a pre-Wedding Breakfast check.
  • Announce the Wedding Breakfast – organise a Receiving Line if required.
  • Make sure that all guests are seated and are happy.
  • Announce Grand Entrance of the Bride and Groom and seat them.
  • Seat guests and let them know when the speeches are going to happen.
  • Make sure that background music is on and at the right volume.
  • Assist with calling tables up for buffets and also check the head table.
  • Check meals are cleared, glasses are charged and the photographer is ready.
  • Announce the speeches and any other personalisations on the day (i.e. slideshow).
  • Announce and manage Cake Cut; ask guests to come around the cake to photograph you.
  • Finish up the speeches with three cheers and let guests know what is happening next.
  • Liaise with management on clearing the room and also help evening suppliers.
  • Organise and manage First Dance, Bouquet Toss, Father/  Daughter Dance etc.
  • General management of the evening, such as your buffet etc.
