We had the pleasure of working at a fabulous venue recently. the wedding venue is called Combe Manor Barn & as the name suggests it is a Manor House & a Barn. Not only that, right next door is a beautiful little parish church (est. in the 12 century)!

Being in Berkshire it was slightly further than we usually travel for wedding DJ events, but it was certainly worth it. In almost 20 years of full time wedding DJing I think it is one of the best barn wedding venues I have seen.

Immediately it struck me that the site is very well loved, but also quite quirky and (unlike a lot of barns) certainly not a just a wedding conveyor belt venue. The grounds and fields surrounding the site are left semi natural & the barn itself is refreshingly quaint & still full of original features and character. This is especially apparent in the grassed Courtyard & adjacent stable block.

The site is managed on the day directly by the owners Jason & Sybille – who also live on the site. The barn itself is arranged in an L-shape, which splits up the ceremony/entertainment side of things and the dining area. This works very well from a wedding DJ’s point of view as we can set up while you eat & be ready for your first dance. But similarly it also allows your day to flow with very little obstruction & turnaround time. There are also options to have your ceremony outside on the front lawn or in the medieval church adjacent to the site.

The couple had a pianist for the ceremony & also the drinks reception so we took over from the meal and called guests in. The couple (Adam & Laura) had a grand entrance to their wedding breakfast – with everyone waving their napkins to The Rolling Stones – She’s a rainbow. They then had speeches at various point throughout the meal using our PA system and microphones.

Following this the couple were taken in to the adjacent fields for a golden hour shoot and the guests kicked back in the courtyard with some drinks and chat & chill out house music set in the background.

An Hour later and everyone was on the dance floor watching Adam & Laura’s the first dance. They chose No other way – Paulo Nutini & were quickly joined by their family and friends.

The night was full of hits from the 70’s – todays chart & it was full all night long. The crescendo was Sweet Caroline & then an ELO track chosen by the groom (Last train to London).
